Accessibility Statement

We believe everyone should be able to use our website and booking engine, regardless of ability. Accessibility is not just a compliance requirement — it improves the experience for every guest.

We work continuously to ensure our website and booking engine meet the European Accessibility Act (EAA) and conform with WCAG 2.1 Level AA.

This statement applies to the hotel’s website and the booking engine used to complete reservations.

Our approach

Accessibility is owned jointly by the hotel, Nordic Hotels & Resorts, and our platform providers. Our work includes automated testing, continuous review and user testing to identify and address issues on an ongoing basis.

Compliance status

Our website and booking engine partially meet the requirements of WCAG 2.1 Level AA. A full audit has been completed against 96 accessibility criteria based on the Swedish Public Employment Service’s accessibility checklist.

 

Summary of accessibility status Of 96 criteria, 35 (36.5%) are fully met and 19 (19.8%) are partially met. 17 criteria (17.7%) are not fully met, primarily around form structure, error handling, code quality and component naming. 9 criteria (9.4%) could not be verified via automated auditing — these require supplementary manual testing and will be addressed as part of ongoing work. We have a clear remediation plan together with our web provider and are prioritising the most critical issues first.

 

Known issues in the booking engine

The booking engine used to complete reservations across all Nordic Hotels & Resorts websites has the following known issues. These are part of ongoing improvement work and are maintained centrally.

For users with visual impairments and/or reduced colour vision

• The homepage is missing an <h1> heading, making it difficult for screen reader users to identify the page’s main topic. (WCAG 1.3.1, 2.4.6)
• Several images within promotional offer links and destination cards use empty alt attributes, meaning the content they convey is not described to screen reader users. (WCAG 1.1.1)
• A number of elements use role=”presentation” or role=”none” inside interactive links, which may cause assistive technologies to ignore meaningful structural information. (WCAG 4.1.2)

For users with motor impairments

• There is no skip-to-content link, requiring keyboard users to tab through the full navigation on every page load. (WCAG 2.4.1)
• The destination search field has autocomplete disabled, which prevents browsers and assistive technologies from offering auto-fill suggestions. (WCAG 1.3.5)

For users with cognitive difficulties

• The homepage lacks a visible <h1> heading, making it harder to understand the page’s purpose at a glance. (WCAG 2.4.6)
• The hotel listing page contains a large number of interactive elements and the page heading appears multiple times at different heading levels, creating a confusing structure. (WCAG 1.3.1, 2.4.6)

Known issues on the hotel website

The following issues have been identified through an audit of our website and are part of our ongoing improvement work together with our web provider.

For users with visual impairments and/or reduced colour vision

• The hero video on the front page lacks a text description briefly describing the content. (WCAG 1.1.1, Level A)
• Pre-recorded video lacks a text alternative for the visual content. (WCAG 1.2.1, Level A)
• Text contrast against background does not meet 4.5:1 on a number of elements — including “Læs mere” links. (WCAG 1.4.3, Level AA, partially met)
• Text placed over the hero video does not reach sufficient contrast. (WCAG 1.4.3, Level AA, partially met)
• Some alt texts on content images are generic or do not match image content (e.g. room images labelled “Single”, “Double”). (WCAG 1.1.1, Level A, partially met)
• Inline links in body text are marked only by colour — without underline or other non-colour indicator. (WCAG 1.4.1, Level A, partially met)

For users with motor impairments

• A global CSS rule removes visible focus state on interactive elements. New :focus-visible styling is planned. (WCAG 2.4.7, Level AA, partially met)
• The cookie consent dialog creates a keyboard trap — focus gets stuck in a loop near the start of the page. Remediation required by third-party provider. (WCAG 2.1.2, Level A*, partially met)
• The hero video plays automatically and continuously without a visible pause/stop button. (WCAG 2.2.2, Level A*)

For users with cognitive difficulties

• Menu code is duplicated — 4 nav elements create repeated headings (H2) before the page’s H1, breaking the heading hierarchy. (WCAG 1.3.1, Level A, partially met)
• External links (e.g. to Preferred Hotels, findsmiley.dk, imageshop.no) are not marked as external, neither visually nor in code. (WCAG 2.4.4, Level A)
• Footer headings (“Kontakt”, “Praktisk”, “Om Admiral”) are coded as links with href=”#” that lead nowhere. (WCAG 4.1.2, Level A, partially met)
• Occasional English phrases on Danish pages are not marked with a lang attribute. (WCAG 3.1.2, Level AA, partially met)

Forms and error handling

• Four form fields lack a programmatically associated label. (WCAG 1.3.1, Level A)
• The email field lacks an autocomplete attribute for email and name. (WCAG 1.3.5, Level AA)
• Required fields in the newsletter form are not visually marked. (WCAG 3.3.2, Level A)
• The newsletter form lacks introductory text explaining how required fields are marked. (WCAG 3.3.2, Level A)
• Invalid fields do not receive aria-invalid, and error messages are not linked to fields via aria-describedby. (WCAG 3.3.1, Level A)
• A consolidated error summary is not shown at the top of the form on validation failure. (WCAG 3.3.1, Level A)
• Focus does not move to the error message after failed submission. (WCAG 3.3.1, Level A)
• Error messages during inline validation are not announced to screen readers (missing role=”alert” or aria-live). (WCAG 4.1.3, Level A)

Components and code quality

• 29 interactive controls lack an accessible name — primarily icon-only buttons such as menu toggle, close buttons, slider arrows. (WCAG 4.1.2, Level A)
• Image links without text (e.g. social media icons in the footer) lack an accessible name. (WCAG 4.1.2, Level A)
• Two of five iframes lack a title attribute, including the Snazzy Maps embed. (WCAG 4.1.2, Level A)
• Modal dialogs lack role=”dialog”, aria-modal and an accessible name. (WCAG 4.1.2, Level A, partially met)
• W3C validation of the front page shows 274 errors and 37 warnings — including invalid attributes and characters. (WCAG 4.1.1, Level A)
• Duplicate id values occur on the front page (bbh-mega-menu-link appears 5 times) due to duplicated menu code. (WCAG 4.1.1, Level A, partially met)
• Two navigation landmarks have aria-labels (“Site”, “Primary”) that do not match the visible menu text. (WCAG 2.5.3, Level A)

Areas requiring supplementary manual verification

The following areas could not be fully verified through automated testing because the cookie dialog and other technical constraints block automated tools. Manual verification is ongoing.

• Reading order for assistive technology — requires NVDA screen reader test. (WCAG 1.3.2, Level A)
• Full keyboard navigation — automated test blocked by the cookie dialog. (WCAG 2.1.1, Level A)
• Logical focus order — verification blocked for the same reason. (WCAG 2.4.3, Level A)
• Contrast in component default, hover and focus states — requires manual measurement. (WCAG 1.4.11, Level AA)
• Icon contrast — requires manual measurement of menu, social media and USP icons. (WCAG 1.4.11, Level AA)
• Error message text quality and success message — requires manual form testing. (WCAG 3.3.3, 4.1.3, Level AA/A)

How this statement was prepared

This statement is based on a structured audit of the website against 96 accessibility criteria (WCAG 2.1 Level A and AA, with additional Swedish criteria from the Public Employment Service’s accessibility checklist). The review covers both automated testing and manual verification using keyboard, screen reader, and browser developer tools.
