Eco friendly hotel in Copenhagen

Breakfast

We primarily use organic dairy produce: milk, yoghurt, butter.
Bread, muesli and oatmeal cereals are organic.
We are striving to minimise the volume of disposable packaging related to breakfast products.

CSR policy

The Copenhagen Admiral Hotel honours – and actively invests in – the internationally recognised CSR principles that include human rights, employee rights and the improvement of environmental and climatic conditions.

Environmental consciousness is fundamental to the thinking of the Copenhagen Admiral Hotel: for several decades, we have persistently worked for – and contributed to – reducing our carbon footprint. Furthermore, we will continue to exercise a responsible policy and actively encourage our employees, our suppliers and our guests to treat the environment with due respect.

Our primary strategy is to ensure that our use of energy and that the effect on the environment of our daily operations is limited to the best of our ability. To achieve this, we are always looking to improve our controls and our work processes as well as refining our products and services to minimise waste.

It is equally important that our suppliers have – and demonstrate – the same values as ours: minimising packaging materials and making use of approved, environmentally friendly products in their own production.

The Copenhagen Admiral Hotel is a member of the internationally recognised organisation, Green Key, whose objective is to improve awareness of the environment within the hotel industry. Each year the organisation sets a number of criteria for its members, which we have committed ourselves to work for, over and above our own goals.

We are very goal-oriented with regard to improving the working environment for our employees: to this end, we have set up the Copenhagen Admiral Hotel’s Working Environment Forum. As a member of the Danish hotel industry organisation, HORESTA, we are committed to meeting all criteria affecting salary conditions, benefits and employment conditions. Furthermore, we must abide by the UN convention regarding economic, social and cultural rights.

Green Hotel

As a guest at Copenhagen Admiral Hotel you are environmentally friendly, and you can enjoy your stay with a clean conscience. Our hotel has the Eco-labeled Green Key, because we make an extra effort to protect the environment.

We purchase energy-friendly household appliances and office equipment.

We reuse copy paper as note paper.

We rent bicycles to our guests. We also provide information on public transport.

We have launched a number of measures aimed at our staff.

We have an active health and safety group.

Heating

Heating facility, pumps, etc. are BMS controlled.

The hotel is fitted with low-energy windows, which are regularly replaced with the latest low-energy models.

Miscellaneous measures

We purchase energy efficient and energy-saving kitchen and office equipment, just as we use only environmentally certified copy paper, which is recycled as notepaper.

We have bicycles available for our guests to rent and we are more than happy to recommend the nearest public transportation service.

We have launched a number of new safety measures for the benefit of our personnel and we have a pro-active health and safety team.

Outdoor area

For weed control, we use gas burners (we never use herbicides).

We collect garden waste and deliver it for composting at the recycling centre.

Power/Lighting

Lights are automatically turned on and off in all rooms via keycards. All common guest areas and outdoor areas are equipped with dimmable light, night dimming units and timer controls. Where possible, fixtures are fitted with energy-friendly light sources. The lobby bar and reception are fitted with LED lighting.

Rooms

All 366 rooms are non-smoking rooms.

Our linen supplier and our cleaners are environmentally certified.

Our brand of toilet paper is Swan labelled.

We have put up notices in bathrooms, urging our guests to limit towel change to protect the environment.

Duvets and pillows are allergy-friendly.

Our wooden furniture is made from solid teak from non-threatened rainforests.

Waste

We separate cardboard (cardboard press).

We collect paper in separate paper containers that are collected for reuse.

We separate bottles and waste glass for later collection.

We collect organic waste in separate containers.

We separate iron and metal waste for delivery at the recycling centre.

We collect batteries, electronic scrap and light sources in special containers for delivery at recycling centre.

Water

We use water submeters to measure water consumption separately for hotel and kitchen areas, the areas being subdivided into sections.

We measure water consumption for dish washers separately and compare results week by week.

Rooms are fitted with low-flow toilets.

Toilets in common guest areas are equipped with high/low flows.

Water-saving shower roses and tap aerators are fitted in rooms and in restrooms in the common guest areas
