Copenhagen for kids – our guide

A jazz festival, playgrounds, children’s workshops and an unbelievable amusement park – Copenhagen is full of fun treats and activities for children of all ages. Whether you choose to travel by public transport, explore the city by bicycle or just walk it, Copenhagen is a city for kids. Our suggestions and guide are below.

The parks of Copenhagen offer some wonderful, green oases in the midst of the city’s hustle and bustle. Not far from the hotel, the Kongens Have Park has not only a playground but, during the summer, can boast a puppet theatre too, offering entertainment for younger children. In the Frederiksberg Have, you can enjoy rowing on the waterways, the H.C. Ørsteds Park has swings and roundabouts and at Fælled Parken in the Østerbro area, you can sniff and feel your way through the Garden of Senses or, more daring, try your skills in the challenging skateboard arena.

Copenhagen is known as a city of bikes and, of course, at the Copenhagen Admiral Hotel, you can rent a bike to get around in the city, just like the locals! The harbour bath at Islands Brygge is about a 15-minute bike ride from the hotel. It is an openair swimming pool in Copenhagen’s harbour, right in the middle of the city, which attracts families with children from all over the city. When the city is sizzling, Copenhageners can enjoy swimming and sun bathing with the city’s spires and the life of the harbour as their backdrop.

After a refreshing swim, you might like to move on to some of the city’s many museums, which have children’s workshops, where they can draw, paint and express themselves. During the summer months, the museums excel with exhibitions that are interesting for children and adults. To produce a guide to Copenhagen for kids and not include Tivoli Gardens is unthinkable! Since 1843, Tivoli has been providing pleasure for children and their parents and, for the children, it is an Eldorado – amusements of every description and enough varieties of ice cream to satisfy a kid’s wildest dreams. On the other hand, to relax, you can just stroll around and admire the beautiful flowers and plants. You can purchase your tickets for the Tivoli Gardens at the reception desk.
At Copenhagen Zoo, there is always a lot happening during the summer months and one of the star acts for children is when the elephants have their daily bath. Moreover, you are able to get a very good idea of summer on the savannah. In the Zoolab, children of all ages can learn much more about the animal kingdom.

During July, the good vibes of the Copenhagen Jazz Festival will put a smile on the faces of the city. At Lindevangs Park in the Frederiksberg district, there is Jazz for Kids – a 5-day festival of free performances and throughout the jazz festival week, there will be lots of jazz for kids throughout the city. In the beginning of August, Copenhagen will be celebrating opera with the Copenhagen Opera Festival. Look out for and look forward to Mestersangerne (the Master Singers), who will provide entertainment, invite you to sing-a-longs and perform opera for kids. The complete programme is available on the festival website. As you can see, there is lots of fun available in Copenhagen for all of the family!
