Copenhagen lots of excellent ice bars, whether your preference is for ice-lollies or cornets. Here are our 5 favourites, which you really should not miss.
In one of the side streets to the Østerbrogade thoroughfare, you’ll find Oluf’s Is. Freshly made Italian ice-lollies from the classic strawberry sorbet to café gelato. Three of four times each week Oluf’s presents the “ice of the day” and, for vegans, they have produced a vegan ice. The bar is open from 12:00 – 19:00 hrs, from Wednesdays to Sundays
At Munchies in Torvegade in the Christianshavn district you should try their bubble waffle. This is a very light, airy waffle, which is then folded to a cornet, filled with ice cream, and decorated with sprinkles. Munchies is open every day from 12:00 – 22:00 hrs, but opens earlier and closes later at weekends.
Since 1920, Vaffelbageren (The Waffle Baker) has used the same, secret recipe for their waffles and since 1953, they have been a permanent feature of Nyhavn. Of course, an old-fashioned waffle ice with homemade waffle, ice balls of various flavours, whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles is always a popular choice. On the other hand, soft-ice and Belgian waffles are also on the card. Enjoy the summer with an ice in Nyhavn, just a few steps from the hotel. Vaffelbageren is open every day from 10:00 hrs.
Want to enjoy an ice that’ll do your conscience good? Social Foodies is a social-economic shop, where the profit is used to support socially vulnerable groups in Africa and Denmark. Social Foodies has two outlets, both open daily – one in Frederiksberg and one the Østerbro district – which offer freshly made ice cream with sweet preserve and chocolate marshmallow.
A little bit of Sicily in Copenhagen. Siciliansk Is (Sicilian Ice) make delicious, Italian gelato and sorbet using recipes that originate from Sicily. Not everything is exactly as “Mamma” made it because there are modern vegan, lactose free and gluten free variations. Siciliansk Is has three outlets in the Vesterbro district, the Nørrebro district and Christianshavn and they are open from 13:00 – 18:00 hrs, every day during the summer.
